Eco Audit & The Town

Invitation to Citizen Science & Biodiversity webinar

Please join us for the launch of Sawbridgeworth’s Citizen Science & Biodiversity initiative

On Tuesday 14 September at 19.30 via Zoom

To help residents learn about and protect our town’s biodiversity

Hosted by Sawbridgeworth Town Council and supported by community group Sustainable Sawbridgeworth, the webinar will:

Provide an insight into the wide range of habitats in and around Sawbridgeworth
Invite residents to join a group to monitor these natural assets.

It follows an extensive eco-audit covering the wonderful variety of natural habitats in our local area, compiled and written by Bob Reed, who has been prominent in the upkeep of Pishiobury Park for many years.

We hope that local schools, community groups and residents of all ages will join the Citizen Science group to carry out a range of activities in order to learn about and protect these natural spaces. Actions will include:

Looking at how good water quality is in the River Stort
Finding out about our local levels of air pollution by assessing the lichens growing on trees
Using sound meters to show if we have any noisy hotspots
Simple soil testing to discover just how good our local soils are for storing carbon with global warming in mind, and whether we have acid rain.

The survey and webinar also mark the COP 26 United Nations Climate Change Conference in Glasgow.
